Electromyogram (EMG) and nerve conduction studies are electrical tests of targeted nerves and muscles to determine the point at which pain, numbness and/or weakness originates. Desert Valley Neurology schedules patients quickly and provides rapid turnaround of reports to referring providers.
Image or sound wave tests. These can include Computer Assisted Tomography (CAT scan) which creates two-dimensional pictures of selected body parts or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which utilizes magnetic fields and radio waves.
Electroencephalography (EEG) measures the electrical activity of the brain and is used primarily in the evaluation of seizures and other alterations of consciousness.
Sleep studies diagnose specific causes of sleep problems by monitoring brain wave activity, heart rate, electrical activity of the heart, breathing and oxygen in the blood while the patient sleeps.
Cerebral spinal fluid analysis (Spinal tap or lumber puncture) is used to check for bleeding, hemorrhage, infection or other disorder of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. The lower back is numbed with local anesthesia and a thin needle is placed into the space that contains the spinal fluid.
